Excerpt from The Nature and Treatment of Syphilis, and the Other So-Called 'Contagious Diseases'
Pye Smith, Mr. T. Smith, Mr. Venning, Dr. Wilks, Mr. J. Wood, etc.
The Pathology of Syphilis was admirably explained by the various eminent speakers in these debates and this fact, added to the knowledge gained in preceding and subse quent discussions on the Treatment of Syphilis, held in Paris, 1867, and in Philadelphia in 187 6, has enabled me to place before my readers a far more complete sketch of this all important disease, than I have been in a position to do in any former edition. My hope is that any earnest student, who does me the honour to read this little treatise, will be able to make up his mind, from the evidence before him, without any need of dogmatic assertions on my part.
