Northwest Louisiana, where, within the last few years, from pools some two thousand feet beneath a surface soil notoriously sterile, there has been extracted millions of dollars' worth of oil. My driver, one mcgraw, and I were alone in the surrey. Mcgraw had spoken but briefly during the first two miles, but presently the roughen ing of the road seemed to loose his tongue, possibly to divert my attention from his unskilful driving.
