Jefferson city (ante), the capital of Missouri and co. Seat of Cole co pep. '74, is situated on the right bank of the Missouri river, 143 m. From its junction with the Mississippi. It is on the line of the Missouri Pacific railroad, by which it is con hooted with St. Louis. The site is commanding and affords a fine view of the attrae tive scenery on the opposite bank of the river. The city is built on an elevation, and contains a number of handsome edifices, including the governor's residence, the state penitentiary, state-house, and 8 churches.
