It is on the line of the Missouri Pacific railroad, by which it is con hooted with St. Louis. The site is commanding and affords a fine view of the attrae tive scenery on the opposite bank of the river. The city is built on an elevation, and contains a number of handsome edifices, including the governor's residence, the state penitentiary, state-house, and 8 churches.
