Synopsis

A pointed 18th‑century religious defense and critique, presented as a call to think for yourself.

This volume gathers Edward Evanson’s correspondence and arguments directed at Dr. Priestley, probing biblical interpretation, prophecies, and church history with a sharp, polemical voice.

In this edition, the author challenges common readings of the Gospel and prophecies, debates the nature of the kingdom of God, and examines how nations and churches have shaped religious belief over time. The text blends scriptural analysis with references to historical figures and events, inviting readers to weigh evidence and form their own conclusions.

• Exchanges on how prophecies are fulfilled and how they should guide interpretation.
• Debates over who wrote certain passages and how they should be understood today.
• Arguments about the relationship between church authority, civil power, and religious reform.
• A critical look at how historical context influences theological positions.

Ideal for readers of religious history and 18th‑century polemics who want to explore contested interpretations and the mechanics of argument in early modern Christianity.
