It consists of the memoirs of Esaias Pufendorf, a Swedish diplomat and historian. This excerpt from his work details his diplomatic mission to Vienna in 1671-1674, during a complex period characterized by the ambitious expansionist plans of King Louis XIV of France. Throughout his mission, Pufendorf found himself at the heart of diplomatic maneuvers and experienced firsthand the dynamics of power and strategy employed by the various European courts. The author's observations on the state of the Austrian court, its motivations, and its relationship with other European powers offer valuable insights into the thinking of key political figures of the era.
