Excerpt from Strabo als Quelle des Flavius Josephus: Inaugural-Dissertation Verfasst und der Hohen Philosophischen Facultät der Kgl. Bayer.
Buche, d. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a nuanced analysis of Josephus' works, particularly the "Antiquities of the Jews" and "The Jewish War". The author explores the complex historiography of the first-century Jewish historian, considering his motivations, sources, and methods. A central theme is the extent to which Josephus drew upon Greek and Roman historians in his accounts of Jewish history. The author challenges the prevailing view that Josephus primarily relied on an anonymous Greek source, arguing instead that he consulted a wider range of sources, including the works of Strabo and Nicolaus of Damascus. This book sheds new light on the relationship between Josephus and his sources, offering valuable insights into the development of Jewish historiography in the Roman period.
