Excerpt from Walks in Yorkshire: Wakefield and Its Neighbourhood; With Map, and Fifty-Five Woodcuts
N 1866 the writer ventured to print a description of Walks in the North West and North East of York shire, intending afterward to go through the rest of the County in the same manner. Down to the present time, however, he has been unable to traverse more than the Wold's and Holderness, portions of South West Yorkshire, and the Country around Wakefield. As to the last a suggestion has been made that it might be preferable to publish these Walks by themselves, and with more detail than would be practicable in case of a larger district. The present book is the result of adopting the sug gestion; and this is done with the hope that the publication may be acceptable to the inhabit ants of the places to which it extends, if not to others.
