In general the unit load method has been employed. This is the only satisfactory method to use if maximum stresses are desired. In Article 89 is given a method by which the effects of certain fields of loading can be found directly.

The second example in Chapter IV has been worked out in detail and the computations arranged in tabular form so that they can be easily followed. By using these tabular forms the numerical work can be subdivided and assigned to two or more computers.
