Excerpt from De Iteratione Nonniana: Dissertatio Inauguralis

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book studies the repetitive use of poetic elements in the epic poem Dionysiaca by the Greek poet Nonnus of Panopolis, who lived in Egypt in the 5th century A.D. The author analyzes word usage and structure, providing a systematic catalog of recurring elements and discussing the literary and rhetorical context of the poet's work. The author argues that the repetitions serve a variety of purposes, including the creation of rhythm, emphasis, and symbolic meaning, and that Nonnus's use of repetition is a conscious and deliberate technique that contributes to the overall structure and meaning of the poem. The book also discusses the broader significance of Nonnus's work within the context of ancient Greek literature and offers new insights into the poet's creative process and the development of epic poetry in late antiquity.
