Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book marks a major stride in the understanding of optical image defects. It is the first systematic treatment of image errors of the fifth order in optical systems, a topic previously tackled only in fragmentary and piecemeal fashion. The author provides a detailed account of the theory, focusing on the development of power series for the fifth order aberrations of a general optical system. The work is a unique contribution to the field of geometrical optics, and it flows naturally from Seidelâs pioneering work on the subject. The author has organized and generalized earlier results on this subject, presenting a comprehensive and practical approach that will prove useful to anyone interested in the physics of image formation. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
