On a une preuve de son habileté à se servir des pédales dans une piece de son recueil, écrite pour double pédale. Titon du Tillet dit que Le Bègue avait besoin d'une troisième main pour l'aider dans des morceaux à quatre ou cinq parties d'une harmonie toujours suivie, ce dont on n'a presque point trouvé d'exécution dans une seule personne, que dans le célèbre Louis Marchand Enfin, on louait beaucoup ses quatuors sur l'orgue, qui devaient beaucoup gagner aussi à un habile emploi de la pédale.

Quelque temps avant sa mort, Marchand quitta les Cordeliers. La der n1ere fois qu'il toucha leur orgue, prévoyant sans doute sa mort prochaine, il sortit en disant Adieu, ma chère veuve.
