On the Historical Types Contained in the Old Testament: Twenty Discourses Preached Before the University of Cambridge in the Year 1826, at the Lecture, Founded by the Rev. John Hulse (Classic Reprint) - Hardcover
Synopsis
Explore how biblical types point to a larger purpose. This collection of Cambridge lectures explains how Old Testament history foreshadows the coming of Christ and how prophecy completes the picture.
Delving into historical figures and events—from Moses and David to Jonah and Solomon—the book shows how prefigurative patterns are recognized and interpreted across Scripture. It treats typology as a legitimate, scripturally grounded method for understanding the Bible’s deeper connections and messages.
- Learn how biblical types are ratified by prophecy and later fulfilled in the life of Christ.
- See concrete examples like the brazen serpent, the figures of Moses, and the line of David and Solomon.
- Understand the interpreter’s approach: how to recognize typology and the rules that guide its use.
- Discover how ancient readings illuminate later Christian theology and the unity of Scripture.
Ideal for readers of biblical scholarship, theology students, and anyone seeking a clear, historical approach to how the Old Testament documents point to the New Testament entity of Christ.
