L. Annaeus Seneca Cordubensis, quem patrem vel rhetorem nominare solemus, ut a philos0pho Seneca eum discernamus, eques Romanus fuit temporibusque Caesarum Augusti et Tiberii floruit. Cuius de vita, studiis scriptisque cum nec multa nec satis certa memoriae prodita sint, praecipue ea sequi oportet, quae ipse de se atque aequalibus commemoravit. Ex his apparet eum virum anti quae severitatis litterarumque studiosissimum fuisse, qui cum ipse arti oratoriae operam daret, de corrupta illins aetatis eloquentia quam firmo et acerbo tam recto et subtili iudicio usus sit.
