Excerpt from Apollodorus, Vol. 1 of 2: The Library
Further than this we cannot go with any reasonable certainty in attempting to date the work. The author gives no account of himself and never refers to contemporary events: indeed the latest oc currences recorded by him are the death of Ulysses and the return of the Heraclids. Even Rome and the Romans are not once mentioned or alluded to by him. For all he says about them, he might have lived before Romulus and Remus had built the future capital of the world on the Seven Hills.
