Synopsis
This book teaches a new method of teaching arithmetic and mental calculation, by combining mental and written arithmetic with questions to promote independent learning. Developed by the author as a result of his experience teaching, the method is designed to help students develop confidence in their arithmetic and become proficient in the subject. The book is appropriate for use in public and private schools alike, and in a variety of different educational settings: group environments, one-on-one instruction, or home schooling. The book is divided into several sections, with the first section focused on mental exercises to help students develop their understanding of the various operations in arithmetic. Mental exercises using federal money are provided in the next section to expand the students' knowledge and assist in transfer of learning. Additionally, the book contains review questions to test the students' level of understanding. To help gauge student progress after studying each rule, the author suggests questions to ask the class. The book is written in a clear and concise manner, and the methods taught are easy to understand. With regular use of the methods outlined in the book, teachers will find their students become much more able in arithmetic and are able to think for themselves.
