Excerpt from On Labour: Its Wrongful Claims and Rightful Dues, Its Actual Present and Possible Future
Words, in substance the same as these, have already served for motto on the title-page, and might by themselves have sufficed likewise for pre face, for they explain fully the motives for my present appearance in print. An additional reason for their being repeated here is, that besides being those of one of my most valued friends, they are taken from a treatise of his containing but few other passages to which I am prepared to accord an equally unqualified assent.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the plight of the working class from the late 18th century onwards, using historical and contemporary analysis to provide a nuanced understanding of their struggles. It offers a stark contrast between their present and past circumstances and questions whether recent economic growth has been equally distributed. The author employs historical research to demonstrate that, despite technological advancements, the material conditions of the working class have not improved since the 18th century. The book delves into the root causes of this and examines the impact of social and economic policies on the lives of laborers. It prompts readers to consider whether the current distribution of wealth and opportunity is just, challenging the assumption that technological progress necessarily leads to improved well-being for all members of society.
