Excerpt from Logic, Vol. 1
The present work is intended to cover the whole field Logic as ordinarily understood. It includes an outline of elementary Formal Logic, which should be read in close connection with Dr Keynes's classical- work, in which the last word has been said on most of the fundamental problems of the subject. As regards Material Logic, I have taken Mills System of Logic as the first basis of discussion, which however is subjected to important criticisms mostly on the lines of the so-called conceptualist logicians.
I have to express my great obligations to my former pupil, Miss Naomi Bentwich, without whose encouragement and valuable assistance in the composition and fr arrangement of the work, it would not have been produced in its present form.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating world of logic, exploring its fundamental principles and applications. The author sets out to cover the entire field of logic as it is commonly understood, tracing its historical development and examining its relationship to other disciplines, including philosophy, psychology, and mathematics. The book positions itself within the long-standing debate between nominalism, conceptualism, and realism, presenting a unique perspective that draws from the insights of various thinkers, including Aristotle, Plato, and Berkeley. The author argues that logic is not simply a matter of manipulating words or concepts, but rather a tool for analyzing the structure of thought itself. The book grapples with complex concepts such as the nature of propositions, the distinction between judgments and assertions, and the role of induction in arriving at valid conclusions. The author's nuanced examination of logic's fundamental principles and their application across various fields offers fresh insights into the nature of knowledge, thought, and reality itself. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
