Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a fascinating exploration of the nature of conduct and morality, delving into the psychological processes that underlie our actions and choices. The author skillfully examines the complex interplay of impulses, habits, and reflection, tracing the development of volition from its earliest, spontaneous forms to the more deliberate and conscious acts that characterize our mature selves. Drawing upon the insights of ancient Greek philosophers like Socrates and Aristotle, the author presents a framework for understanding morality that is both grounded in the individualââ â¢s experience and sensitive to the broader social and historical context in which actions take place. The bookââ â¢s exploration of how our desires are shaped and transformed through reflection, and the crucial role played by ââ Å"mediated impulsesââ  in the formation of our character, reveals the intricate relationship between reason and desire. This captivating exploration challenges traditional notions of good and evil, ultimately suggesting that moral worth lies not in conforming to external rules, but in achieving a harmonious balance within the self.
