This book examines the role of bacteria in causing suppuration and septic diseases. In the late 1800s, when the book was written, the role of bacteria in disease was still being investigated, and the author sought to summarize and clarify the latest knowledge at the time. The author discusses the different species of pyogenic organisms, their effects on animals, the conditions necessary for infection, and the anatomy of abscesses. The author concludes by stating that the etiology of suppuration and septic diseases has still not been fully solved, but that the discovery of the bacterial causes of these diseases has been a significant step forward in our understanding.
