Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the profound influence that industrial education has had on American schools from the period following the Civil War through the early years of the 20th century. The author explores the ways in which industrial education emerged as a response to the country's burgeoning industrialization and how it sought to address concerns about the lack of skilled workers, juvenile delinquency, and social unrest. By examining the work of pioneers in the field like John Dewey, Booker T. Washington, and Charles Prosser, the book highlights the fierce debates surrounding the purpose and methods of this new form of education. Through a comprehensive analysis of government reports, school board minutes, and the writings of key figures, the author provides a nuanced understanding of the complex and contested nature of industrial education. Ultimately, the book offers valuable insights into the ongoing struggle to define the role of education in a rapidly changing society.
