Book Description Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. A System of Medicine: Volume Four is a collection of articles written on topics pertaining to the liver, pancreas, ductless glands, and kidneys. Each body part receives its own section within the text and is explored in great deal, from normal functionality to common and rare diseases. Dozens of authors have included articles in this collection, which highlights specific afflictions such as jaundice, congestion, infantilism, nephroptosis, adiposis dolorosa, and more. The book is sparsely illustrated, but does feature images of all of the major body parts discussed and a detailed index concludes the work. A System of Medicine is a highly technical work and one that includes peer reviewed articles that are academic in nature. While this is an excellent collection of information, the reader should be advised that as this text was originally published over one hundred years ago, many medical advances have been made rendering some of the information outdated and therefore better as a historical reference instead of a medical guide. Allbutt and Rolleston's collection of medical research was unparalleled at the time of its original publication, making this an interesting read for both medical students and historians alike. print-on-demand item.
