Hence it is not surprising that discrepancies, some times very material ones, exist between the few manu script copies of the Talmud still extant in Munich and Rome, Oxford and Florence, Cambridge, Hamburg, and other seats of learning. It is surprising that there are no more of these variations, and that, on the arrival of the Talmudic text at its third stage, the printing period, it was possible to produce tolerably uniform and measurably correct editions.
