Excerpt from Psychopathological Researches: Studies in Mental Dissociation, With Text Figures and Ten Plates
The present researches form a series of cases the investigation of which is undertaken with the Object of studying the problems presented by the phenomena of functional psychosis. Out of a mass Of material we have selected a few cases typical Of many others, each case standing for a type. As much as possible we have tried to avoid theories and principles and give simply a resume of the facts and experiments. The more general aspects of these cases and the conclusions flowing from similar Observations and ex periments are relegated to another work soon to ap pear under the title Of Principles of Psyefiology and Psyefiopalfiology. Q The cases are more in the nature of laboratory researches, each case standing on its own individual merits; they are all, however, inti mately interconnected, representing various phases and stages Of the processes of mental dissociation.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating and often perplexing world of functional psychosis, a term encompassing mental disorders characterized by disruptions in mental processes rather than physical damage to the brain. The author, a pioneer in the field of psychopathology, argues that understanding the initial stages of mental dissolution is crucial to comprehending the more advanced states of mental degeneration. By applying the principle of reduction, the author advocates for studying these initial stages in a controlled and systematic manner, much like scientists study natural phenomena in a laboratory setting. The book emphasizes the importance of introspection as a primary tool for studying psychic phenomena, acknowledging the challenges of working with subjective experiences and the need for careful analysis of patient accounts. The author highlights the role of functional psychosis in bridging the gap between the study of the brain and the study of mental illness, arguing that it offers a unique opportunity to investigate the connection between mental functions and neurological processes. Through in-depth case studies, the book explores the complex interplay of mental dissociation, subconscious systems, and the dynamics of memory and intelligence. The author's groundbreaking research sheds light on the potential for reintegration and healing in cases of functional psychosis, providing valuable insights into the processes of synthesis and restoration of disturbed mental states.
