This book examines the Higher Criticism, a branch of Biblical Criticism that investigates the authenticity, date of composition, and authorship of the Bible's texts. This criticism arose as a radical movement within the Christian Church in the 19th century, predominantly among German scholars, and it has challenged traditional views of the Bible's origin and nature. The author explores the principles and methods of this criticism, including its reliance on Hegelian philosophy, its rejection of the supernatural, and its assumption of a naturalistic evolution of religion. The book also examines the Higher Criticism's impact on the Pentateuch and Levitical ritual, as well as its implications for the doctrines of inspiration and the authority of Scripture. Ultimately, this book provides a valuable resource for understanding the significant insights and ongoing debates surrounding the Higher Criticism and its influence on the interpretation of the Bible.
