Synopsis

Excerpt from The Higher Criticism: Or, Modern Critical Theories as to the Origin and Contents of the Literature and Religion Found in the Holy Scriptures; Being a Paper Read Before the Brantford Ministries Alliance

Textual Criticism is that branch of the science of Biblical Criticism which undertakes to investigate and settle the exact text of the various writings of which the Holy Scriptures are composed. The exact text sought for is that which was originally written down by the authors of the various books. In seeking to discover this text, the various manuscripts of the Biblical writings are collected and diligently compared. The different readings in these manuscripts are care fully collated; and the date of their production, the kind of letters found in them, and other things, are taken into account for the purpose of getting as nearly as possible at the originaltext of the Old and New Testaments.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the Higher Criticism, a branch of Biblical Criticism that investigates the authenticity, date of composition, and authorship of the Bible's texts. This criticism arose as a radical movement within the Christian Church in the 19th century, predominantly among German scholars, and it has challenged traditional views of the Bible's origin and nature. The author explores the principles and methods of this criticism, including its reliance on Hegelian philosophy, its rejection of the supernatural, and its assumption of a naturalistic evolution of religion. The book also examines the Higher Criticism's impact on the Pentateuch and Levitical ritual, as well as its implications for the doctrines of inspiration and the authority of Scripture. Ultimately, this book provides a valuable resource for understanding the significant insights and ongoing debates surrounding the Higher Criticism and its influence on the interpretation of the Bible. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9781330553404_0
