Excerpt from The Building of the Church
The sovereign interest which this lectureship holds in its eye - the work of Preaching - has not been overlooked in the choosing of my subject. I do not forget that I am speaking to men who are interested supremely in the art of preaching, but I invite you to approach the subject through the Christian church. After so many illustrious teachers have spoken on the subject, it would be indeed presumptuous for any man at this late date to attempt to offer additional suggestion or instruction, were it not that the subject of preaching lies, like the New Jerusalem, foursquare, with an ideal number of gates on every side, through any one of which the lecturer may make his way into the heart of the imperial theme.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves deeply into the concept of the Christian church, exploring its significance and purpose through the lens of the New Testament. Challenging contemporary views that diminish the church's relevance, the author argues for its vital role in shaping individual lives and fostering a vibrant community of faith. Drawing upon the teachings of St. Paul, St. Peter, and St. John, the book emphasizes the church as a "brotherhood" ΓΆβ β a space where love, compassion, and mutual support flourish. It critiques the tendency of some preachers to prioritize self-expression over the crucial task of building and nurturing this brotherhood. Through careful analysis of scripture, the author contends that the church is not merely an institution but a living organism, the very body of Christ in the world. He emphasizes the church's unique power to transform individuals and society, reminding readers that its mission is far from over. Ultimately, this book offers a compelling vision of the church as a dynamic force for good, reminding us that its foundation is built upon the enduring love of Christ and its potential for positive impact remains limitless.
