Excerpt from Forest Culture in Its Relation to Industrial Pursuits: A Lecture, Delivered by Baron Ferd, Von Mueller on 22nd June, 1871
At Ballarat, Creswick, Beechworth, Yackandandah, Sand hurst, Heathcote, Maryborough, Avoca, Castlemaine, Fryer's Creek and Ararat, some of the timber for the mines has to be brought already from distances as remote as 10 to 16 miles, according to returns of the Mining Surveyor, kindly furnished by Mr. R. Brough Smyth. At Pleasant Creek the miners have to go every year a mile further for their wood.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the historical, environmental, and industrial significance of forests and offers a blueprint for preserving their multifaceted value. From the earliest human civilizations to the present day, forests have served as a source of shelter, food, and medicine. They regulate climate, purify water, and nurture biodiversity. The author argues that society must move beyond a solely utilitarian view of forests to recognize and protect their intrinsic worth. By exploring the complex relationship between forests and human societies, this book provides a comprehensive understanding of the critical need for responsible forest management.
