Excerpt from A Manual of the History of the Political System of Europe and Its Colonies: From Its Formation at the Close of the Fifteenth Century to Its Re-Establishment Upon the Fall of Napoleon
In preparing the present edition, nothing has been overlooked, which, in addition to the continuation, might give it that degree of correctness,-as well in regard to the impression, as the deter mination of the several dates, which legitimate criticism can pos sibly require. Both indeed have been submitted to the most scrupulous revision. The author considered it to be so much the more incumbent on him, because, as he is now in the seventieth year of his age, the present edition is, in all probability, the last that will ever proceed from his hands.
