The facts set forth, I trust, will be used as they are intend ed to be used, viz., in making public sentiment, everywhere in favor of the better education of all the children. It is only the truth which can arouse a sentiment strong enough to effect such a result, and no lover of his home and his State should fail to tell the truth in such a cause.
The several parts of this publication are each preceded by a table of contents, which will facilitate reference. All through the tables will be found conclusions, quotations, summaries and suggestions. The final chapter on campaign suggestions contains some examples of practical solutions of particular problems, which, it is hoped, will be found help ful to those who are attempting to secure better educational conditions throughout the South.
Finally, the author hopes the attempted arrangement in concise form of all general available school statistics will be found helpful to earnest men and women who are battling for the children's cause and the future of our civilization, if it does not afford an inspiring study to the emotional and sentimental attitude which we are all too prone to assume on occasion.
