Mr. Yule's early life, in its main features, did not differ very widely from that of others born in the country, reared by conscientious Christian parents, and educated in the rural district schools of Canada. Naturally studious, and of a quick, ready mind, he soon ran the round of the subjects taught in those schools; and, when little more than fifteen years of age, armed with the requisite certificate of qualification, he began the work of common-school teaching, in which, with varying success, he con tinned for about five years.
