This book, a labour of love from the author, is a magnicent and valuable production. It is the rst Polyglot Bible which presents the sacred text in the original languages, with the addition of the Samaritan Pentateuch, and the Syriac and Arabic versions. It was the rst to present a copious collection of various readings. It began in October 1653 and was completed in 1657 – an impressive feat considering only two presses were used for the purpose. Despite the somewhat harsh description of its “errors and imperfections” by a rival of the author, this publication is an indispensable tool for the biblical scholar. It is a signicant contribution to the eld of biblical criticism, and has long been considered the ne plus ultra of biblical publications.
