Synopsis

This book sets out a standardized course of study in pharmacy. Previously, pharmacy courses between different schools varied greatly. The book aims to establish a universal syllabus for schools as well as state boards when licensing. Created by a committee consisting of many national pharmaceutical organizations, the book encompasses the most up-to-date scientific knowledge. It introduces the newly established three grand subdivisions or branches of pharmacy study: materia medica, chemistry, and pharmacy. These branches are then further broken into 7 specialized subjects each, all of which are assigned a specific number of study hours. The book also provides detailed instruction to students regarding practical laboratory work. By presenting an organized framework, this book facilitated the process of studying for pharmacy school and created a more consistent licensing process for practicing pharmacists.
