Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the practices and beliefs of the early Christian Church, examining its rituals and customs in detail. The author meticulously explores the evolution of various festivals observed by Christians, carefully distinguishing between those with both civil and religious significance, and those with purely religious significance. The book sheds light on the early Churchââ â¢s approach to festivals such as the Lordââ â¢s Day (Sunday), the Jewish Sabbath, and the festivals celebrating Christââ â¢s birth and resurrection. The author analyzes the reasons behind the Church's adoption and adaptation of certain festivals, such as the Jewish Sabbath, and discusses the various controversies surrounding their celebration. Furthermore, the book explores the Churchââ â¢s approach to fasting, including the practice of Lent and weekly fasts, and explains the reasoning behind these practices. Readers will also discover fascinating insights into the Churchââ â¢s marriage and burial rites, from the elaborate preparations for funerals to the laws that protected the sanctity of the dead. By providing a comprehensive look at the everyday practices of early Christians, the author offers a rich and detailed glimpse into the Churchââ â¢s early evolution, highlighting the complex interplay between religious beliefs, social norms, and political influences.
