Excerpt from The Part of Rheims in the Making of the English Bible
In this latter work the Rhemish version again finds a place; but, strange to say, the Bishops' Bible - the most abundant of the sources of the Authorized version - is not included. Another version of primary importance, the Genevan, is also left out: for by a curious blunder, calculated to mislead the unwary student, in the column headed 'geneva,' Whitting ham's New Testament of 1557 has been printed.
A complete enumeration of versions and editions of versions consulted by me will be found in Chapter II.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the influence of the Rheims New Testament , a translation popular among English Roman Catholics, on the 1611 King James Bible. The author first surveys the history of English translations that preceded the King James Bible, such as Tyndale's New Testament, the Great Bible, and the Geneva Bible, to position the Rheims version within its historical and literary context. The author then analyzes the methods used to prepare the King James Bible, focusing on the similarities and differences between the Rheims New Testament and the final product. Finally, the book assesses the significance of the Rheims New Testament's influence on the King James Bible, demonstrating its impact on the English language and the development of Biblical scholarship.
