Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a fascinating collection of licentious and bawdy Restoration-era poetry. The poems are anonymous or by authors such as Carew, Suckling, Cartwright, and Sedley, and the editor has gathered them from the songbooks of the period. The poems give voice to the amorous passions, witticisms, and sighs of the cavaliers and ladies of the Restoration period. The language and topics would have been considered improper in earlier periods of English history, and much of it is still considered quite racy by today's standards. However, the poems provide a glimpse into the bawdy side of the periodâs culture. The book will be of great interest to students of Restoration literature, and anyone with an interest in the more scandalous side of literary history. It offers a rich and insightful look into the Restoration period's literary culture. Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
