Excerpt from The Kingdom of Christ: Delineated in Two Essays on Our Lord's Own Account of His Person and of the Nature of His Kingdom, and on the Constitution, Powers, and Ministry of a Christian Church as Appointed by Himself
It cannot be alleged that they are not worth noticing: since, whether intrinsically weak or strong, the reception they have met with from the Public indicates their having had some influence.
And again, if any one is averse to en tering into controversy, and especially per sonal controversy (a feeling with which I cordially sympathize,) this would not corn pel him to leave wholly unnoticed all the arguments that can be urged against his views.' It would be absurd to speak as if there were no medium between, on the one hand, engaging in a controversy, and on the other hand, passing over without any notice at all, every thing that ever has been, or may be, urged on the opposite side. Nothing is easier, or more common, and I should add, nothing more advisable, than to notice in general terms the opis nions or arguments opposed to one's own, and without reference to any particular book or author: as by saying, for instance.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. In this book, the author examines how Christianity, particularly during the era of the Roman Empire, moved away from its initial principles of non-violence and tolerance by presenting a detailed explanation of Christ's teachings regarding the nature of His kingdom. The author uses an accessible approach to close reading the biblical text to support the argument that coercion and violence are incompatible with the teachings that Christ imparted to his disciples. Drawing upon historical accounts and a thorough textual analysis of the Bible, the author presents a compelling case that early Christians abandoned the principles of their faith, leading to the widespread use of force and intolerance within the Church. This book is vital reading for anyone seeking to understand the historical evolution of Christianity and the timeless significance of Christ's teachings on peace, love, and non-violence.
