Synopsis

Excerpt from A Call to the Unconverted to Turn and Live

In compassion to your sinful miserable souls, the Lord, that better knows your case than you can know it, hath made it Our duty to Speak to you in his name, 2 Cor. 5: 19, and to tell you plainly of your sin and misery, and what will be your end, and how sad a change you will shortly see, if yet you go on a little longer. Having'bought you at so dear a rate as the blood Of his Son Jesus Christ, and made you so free and general a promise Of pardon, and grace, and everlasting glory; he commandethius to ten der all-this to you as the gift Of God, and to entreat you to consider the necessity and worth Of what he Ofi'ers. He sees and pities you, while you are drowned inworldly cares and pleasures, eagerly following childish toys, and wasting that short and precious time for a thing Of~naught, in which you should make ready for an everlasting life; and therefore he hath commanded us to call after you and tell you how you lose your labor and are about to lose yourxsouls, and tell' you what greater and better things you might certainly have if you would hearken to his call. Isa. We believe and Obey the voice Of God; and come to you on his message, who hath charged us to preach, and be instant with you in season and out of sea son, to lift up our voice like a trumpet, and show you your transgressions and your sins. Isa. 58: 1; 2 Tim.4 1, 2.

About the Author

Richard Baxter (1615-1691) was a prominent English churchman and peacemaker who sought unity among Protestants. Born in Rowton to parents who undervalued education, he was largely self-taught. At age twenty-three he was ordained into the Church of England. Baxter became even better known for his prolific writing, with more than two hundred works to his name. His devotional classic, "The Saints' Everlasting Rest", was one of the most widely read books of the century. When asked what deviations should be permitted from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, he created an entirely new one, "Reformed Liturgy", in two weeks. His autobiography and his pastoral guide, "The Reformed Pastor", are still widely read today.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book's core aim is to delve into the essence of human wickedness and the path to redemption through conversion, as elucidated by the author. The text is structured around seven central doctrines, beginning with the fundamental principle that the wicked must either convert or face eternal torment. The author then explores the promise of salvation for those who genuinely repent and turn toward God, emphasizing the divine desire for human salvation over damnation. Through a comprehensive examination of biblical teachings, the author expounds on the nature of true conversion, highlighting its transformative power in shaping both the heart and life of an individual. Furthermore, the author tackles the common objection that God's judgment is unjust, arguing that the severity of eternal punishment is commensurate with the gravity of sin and the rejection of God's grace. This book offers a profound exploration of sin, conversion, and God's unwavering love, providing valuable insights for those seeking spiritual renewal and a deeper understanding of their relationship with the divine.
