The following pages are the outgrowth of an attempt to write a brief history of the efforts for peace made by a small group of women in the United States during the European War, and of their connection with the women of other coun tries, as together they became organized into the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.

About the Author
Adams was the founder of Hull-House in Chicago and of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. She was co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931.
Katherine Joslin is a professor of English and director of the program in American studies at Western Michigan University. She is the author of Edith Wharton.
