Excerpt from Correspondence of the American Revolution, Vol. 1: Being Letters of Eminent Men to George Washington, From the Time of His Taking Command of the Army to the End of His Presidency
While I was employed in preparing Washing ton's Writings for the press, I made a selection from letters written to him, and copies were taken from the autographs. It was then my intention to publish the letters thus selected, as a sequel to that work, but various causes have intervened to delay the publication till the present time.
