IN issuing the present Edition (the Fourth) of ru1ns OF many lands, the Author would Observe that as such a work, from its nature, must continue necessarily to admit of additions and emendations, he has availed himself of the opportunity afforded, by introducing in several places new matter, and by thoroughly revising the entire poem. Since the Publishers have thought it expedient to stereotype this Edition, the present is the last time, perhaps, that the Author can hope to amplify or correct, and, on this account, he has spared -no pains or care in the execution of his task, being anxious to render the work less unworthy that favour.
