Excerpt from The Collected Works of Theodore Parker, Minister of the Twenty-Eight Congregational Society at Boston, U. S, Vol. 3: Containing His Theological, Polemical, and Critical Writings, Sermons, Speeches, and Addresses, and Literary Miscellanies
But there is another class of men so great, that all can not see their greatness. They are in advance of men's conjectures, higher than their dreams; too good to be actual, think some. Therefore, say many, there must be some mistake; this man is not so great as he seems; nay, he is no great man at all, but an impostor. These men have what is true not merely in relation to the wants and expectations of men here and to-day but what is true in relation to the Universe, to Eternity, to God. They do not speak what you and I have been trying to say, and cannot but what we Shall one day, years hence, wish to say, after we have improved and grown up to man's estate.

This book features selected works from Theodore Parker's "Discourses of Theology," a wide-ranging exploration of theological ideas that challenged the conventional religious beliefs of his time. As a minister in the mid-19th century, Parker's sermons sparked controversy for their progressive views, which emphasized the importance of personal experience and reason in faith. The author's thoughtful examination of topics such as the nature of Jesus, the role of institutions, and the concept of immortality invites readers to question their own beliefs and consider the evolving nature of religious thought. Through these discourses, Parker encourages a deeper understanding of the human experience and the search for truth within the context of a rapidly changing world.
