The author contrasts Ireland's educational policies with those of several European nations, showing that even predominantly Catholic countries strictly control ecclesiastical education and papal influence. The author fears that increased funding will add strength to Maynooth's capacity to produce priests who are subjects of the Pope, not the Crown, thereby weakening the British monarchy.
