Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the history and issues surrounding the enforcement of a 16th century statute and its impact on the livelihoods, liberties and social status of clergy within the Church of England. The author argues that archaic legislation, drafted for a bygone era with different social structures and religious institutions, is now being enforced so as to unjustly target, intimidate and financially ruin the careers and lives of modern clergy members. The book discusses the themes of religious oppression, social injustice and the erosion of the separation between church and state. It explores how these issues damage the reputation of the clergy and the church, weaken the bonds between the community and its spiritual leaders, and render the church incapable of delivering its mandate. This book is an impassioned plea for justice and reform, appealing to the better nature of lawmakers to recognise the need for legislation to evolve as society does, ensuring that the church and its clergy are cherished, protected, and empowered to serve their communities as they ought to be.
