While out on lecture tours in this country, I have been asked many questions about the manners, customs, and peculiarities of my own people, the Nestorian Christians of Persia, called by their scholars Assyrian Christians, and abbreviated by the people into Syrians. These questions I have found it very difficult to answer so as to give anything like a clear picture either of the peo ple or the country in the brief time that I had to answer them under such circumstances, and, hence this book which I now present to the public, with the earnest hope that it may find a welcome.
