Excerpt from The Ashes of a God
Blast-furnace upon a moth. And the pale young Moon looked out upon it all, from the hair of the angry god; the pale new Moon, that very Digit, who gives the title to our story, being therein described as so superlatively lovely, as to be capable of causing the very god of Love to rise from his own ashes.

F. W. Bain was a Professor of History and Economics at Deccan College in Poona in the early twentieth century. Each of the books in this series is said to be translated from the original manuscripts, which were apparently in Sanskrit. Professor Bain's erudite yet sensitive introductions and footnotes indicate his extensive scholarship in both the Easter and Western traditions.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the complex themes of love, regret, and renunciation through the lens of ancient Hindu mythology. The author delves into the metaphysical struggle of a Brahman who embarks on an extreme ascetic journey to amass merit and challenge the gods. Set in a mystical landscape where gods and mortals interact, the story unfolds through the perspective of the god Maheshwara, who narrates the rise and fall of the protagonist. The narrative draws parallels between the protagonist's obsessive pursuit and the universal human tendency to cling to the past, even in the face of pain. The author examines the destructive power of unchecked desire and the illusion of control in human endeavors. The book also explores the cyclical nature of existence, suggesting that even the most extreme actions are ultimately part of a larger cosmic dance. Through its captivating storytelling and philosophical insights, this book invites readers to reflect on the nature of desire, the transience of life, and the search for meaning in the face of adversity.
