Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents an in-depth account of the 1835 Presbyterian Church trial that tested the core beliefs of one of Americaâs oldest denominations. As the Presbyterian Church debated the heretical nature of one of its ministersâ beliefs, Albert Barnes, it wrestled with its own identity and place in a rapidly evolving society. The author provides a comprehensive overview of the case and the arguments presented by both sides, illuminating the deep divisions within the church at the time. Ultimately, the book sheds light on the complex relationship between faith, reason, and the nature of religious authority, making it an essential read for anyone interested in the history of American religion and the ongoing debates over the interpretation of scripture.
