Synopsis

Excerpt from Pictorial Landscape Photography

There are certain elements which are requisite in the construe tion of a picture, and the greatest of these is vigor. With this present much may be forgiven in the way of technical deficiencies, but without it nothing of enduring value can be attained, though this is by no means to deny the worth of delicate prints in either a high or a low key. Such pictures easily may have more strength than the bolder, full-scale work of less thoughtful workers, for the finest strength is that which is controlled.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book takes readers on a journey into the world of pictorial landscape photography, a style that emerged in the early 20th century as a reaction against the strict objectivity of earlier photographic approaches. The author, a skilled practitioner of the craft, encourages readers to think beyond mere technical proficiency and to embrace the subjective qualities of artistic vision. Instead of providing a dry textbook of formulas and techniques, the author focuses on fostering an understanding of how to cultivate and express artistic vision through the medium of photography. Throughout the book, the author explores the interplay between technical skill and subjective expression, arguing that a photographer's success lies not solely in mastering the mechanics of the craft but also in their ability to capture and communicate emotion through the carefully constructed landscape image. The book delves into the emotional power of landscapes, analyzing how specific compositional elements, such as line, form, and tone, can evoke a wide range of feelings in the viewer. The author also discusses the importance of technical considerations like exposure and printing in achieving the desired emotional impact. The book's insightful exploration of the subjective side of photography challenges the reader to move beyond simply recording the world and to instead engage in a more profound artistic dialogue with the landscapes they encounter. This book offers a timeless and insightful guide to the art of pictorial landscape photography, providing readers with a valuable resource for both technical and aesthetic development. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9781331913917_0
