The carriage (plates II, III, IV). - These carriages are num bered from No. 20 up; they differ from models of earlier dates for mounting the same caliber guns chiefly in having the following features, viz, a single vertical recoil cylinder, increased preponderance of counterweight, a counter - recoil system independent of the recoil system, gears on the recoil rollers.
Stops can be arranged so as to permit traversing either 60, 70, 90, or 1100 either side of the front of the battery, and the piece can be elevated from 5° depression to 15° elevation, stops being arranged to limit the depression to either horizontal or when the height of the parapet requires it.
