This work is too remote from the science which has occu pied the greatest part of my life, too many subjects differing in appearance are treated of, for me not to indicate to the reader the cause which induced me to undertake it: sub sequently I shall speak of the circumstances which made me extend the limits within which it first seemed natural to restrain it.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating world of color, exploring its impact on art, design, and even our daily lives. The author, a renowned scientist, meticulously examines the phenomenon of "simultaneous contrast," where colors influence each other based on their juxtaposition. Through a series of experiments and observations, the author unveils a fundamental law governing these interactions, providing a scientific framework for understanding color harmony and contrast. This groundbreaking work stands apart from earlier attempts to categorize colors and their relationships. Instead of relying on subjective opinions or arbitrary classifications, the author builds a foundation based on rigorous observation and experimentation. This scientific approach allows the reader to grasp the underlying principles that govern color perception and apply them to various fields. The book's insights extend far beyond the realm of theoretical knowledge. The author demonstrates how the law of simultaneous contrast can be harnessed in diverse applications, from painting and tapestry weaving to interior design and even clothing selection. By understanding how colors interact, artists and designers can make informed choices to enhance the visual impact and aesthetic appeal of their creations. Ultimately, this book reveals the profound influence of color on our visual experience, offering timeless principles that continue to shape the world of art and design.
