Synopsis
This book explores how software testing data can be selected and evaluated using either the data flow testing criteria or the feasible data flow testing criteria, families of software test data adequacy criteria based on data flow analysis. It begins by broadly defining software testing, its limitations, and its history before presenting the theory behind how the two different data flow strategies are applied to testing programs. The first testing strategy, data flow testing criteria, is particularly useful for testing simple programs, while the second, feasible data flow testing criteria, is useful for testing more complex programs, including those with loops. Both criteria are evaluated using a set of eight axioms, with each criterion meeting most, but not all, of the axioms.
